THUNDER BAY — As winter gets closer, Ontario Provincial Law enforcement is reminding motorists to adjust their driving as street circumstances change as temperatures drop.

OPP say they normally see an increase in collisions when road ailments start to deteriorate as the climate will get colder.

“Ninety for each cent is attributed to people today not driving to the situations,” OPP spokesperson Sgt. Mike Golding claimed Thursday, Nov. 12. “Sometimes you have to travel 40 kilometres in a 50 kilometre zone if the roadways are that bad.“

Golding clarifies how driving posted pace restrictions in inclement temperature situations can be harmful.

“People assume they can place their car into four-wheel push and they can still maintain all those speeds but the fact of the issue is you have to sluggish down and there is just no way all around it,” he explained.

Law enforcement also urge motorists to take into account winter tires to assistance with traction if they commute commonly on highways through the winter months.
